There was a last minute change on the afternoon of November 12th.

Violet truly wanted her wedding outside at Discovery Park. However, an hour before the ceremony was to start, I received a call saying the ceremony had been moved inside.

Hard move. Smart move.

And inside we went for Jason and Violet's wedding ceremony - sweet, simple and intimate. It was also warm and comfortable and more memorable than if we had been in the wind and rain on the bluff at Discovery Park!

When I think about it, I realize that many of my elopements happen in the rain.

For many couples, getting married outside in a small and intimate ceremony trumps the threat of raindrops.

Often, an elopement is at a Seattle Park, view point or home and if it isn't freezing outside, we're usually outdoors!

If you are being married under the raindrops, here are 3 quick and easy tips for a fun and memorable moment:

1) Plan For Umbrellas! Colorful umbrellas not only cover everyone but they offer color for wonderful wedding photos.

2) Keep The Marriage License Indoors. Some couples want to sign a license outside...not. Rain can create chaos with the ink of a legal document so plan to sign indoors.

3) Find a Tree. Oftentimes, one gets less wet in the rain under a tree or canopy of trees. I was just out at Tree House Point in Preston yesterday for Eric and Erin's tiny ceremony. Yes, it was raining and because of the tree coverage, we didn't even need an umbrella!

I was delighted to marry Shannon and Joe at a moment's notice this past Thursday afternoon. They were to be married earlier in the day in Tacoma and their Officiant was a 'no show.'

Here’s your easy “how to guide” for putting together your wedding ceremony and mini-celebration on a budget of $450 or less. Considering the cost of many weddings these days, this is a bargain!

1) Get Your Marriage License: First things first. You need a valid marriage license. You can obtain your marriage license from any Courthouse or Auditor’s/Clerk’s office in the State of Washington and it is good in Seattle and King County. If you live in King County or are near by, you may visit at King County marriage license office in person to pick up your license. To apply for your license in person, you and your Sweetheart will need to show up in person with proof of ID and $64.

If you are out of the Seattle area or even out of State, you may contact the King County Marriage License office and start the process via phone, fax and mail to get your hands on a marriage license.

The cost of a marriage license in King County is $64 and there is a three-day waiting period from the date the license is issued. So, to get married within a week, you must apply for your license and wait for three days before your legal ceremony. For more information on applying for a marriage license in person or by mail, go to: http://www.kingcounty.gov/courts/marriage.aspx

2) Find a “Marrying Person” To Get You Married: There are dozens of Officiants of all faiths and traditions in the Seattle area including me! You may do a Google search under “Seattle Officiant” or “Seattle Wedding Minister” to find a few people who appeal to you. Your first quest is to inquire with an Officiant or Minister about their availability and fee. If you do enough searching, you will find there are Officiants available for every budget.

3) Find Two Witnesses: In Seattle, you need two witnesses over the age of 18 to witness your marriage. If you have two people to witness your ceremony, no problem! If you require two witnesses, ask your Officiant or Minister about what they can do to help. On occasion, a couple with no witnesses will be married in a public place and invite two people to witness their ceremony. The surprise witnesses are usually touched by be a part of a wedding ceremony and often get a kick out of the unexpected invitation.

4) Do the Math ~ Your $450 Quickie “Let’s Get Married” Budget: Okay, let’s put the figures together on what it will take to get you married within the week.

I love big weddings.

I love tiny weddings.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of traveling to Alderbrook Resort on a rainy Sunday morning.

My quest? To marry Kelli and Olly. Just them. And two witnesses from the Resort.

As I began their ceremony, two ducks started to "quack" quite loudy from the water's edge and we all had a nice laugh (ducks mate for life - nice omen, yes?!)

What I loved most about Keli and Olly was the care and thought they put into their vows. Their vows were poignant, heartfelt and written in their individual voice and language.

To be married in Seattle, Washington, you need a valid marriage license. Whether you are being married in three days, next week or next month, here are easy steps to obtain and use your license in Seattle.

1) How To Apply and Obtain A Valid Marriage License in Seattle If you are being married in Seattle, Washington, you need a valid marriage license issued by King County (or any County in Washington State).

To do this, you and your partner will visit a Marriage Licensing office in Seattle/King County during regular business hours. The cost for the license is $64, cash or debit/credit card. No blood test is required and both of you must at least 18 years of age.

When you leave the government office, you'll walk away with a packet of legal paperwork which you will give to your Officiant or Minister on your wedding day. The person who marries you must review this paperwork before your ceremony takes place and he or she will then get required signatures (both of yours and two witnesses) and return your signed legal document back to the County for processing/certification.

Note: There is a 3-day waiting period from the date your marriage license is issued. What this means is that from the date your license is issued, you must wait 3 full days before you can be legally married. Also, most people who reside in the Seattle area secure their marriage license in Seattle. If by chance you are being married in any other County in Washington State, the license you secure in Seattle/King County is valid in all Counties in Washington State.

Simply put, if you are being married in Washington State, you will need a valid marriage license.

Please remember that there is a "3-day waiting period" from the date your marriage license is issued.

Many couples don't realize this and I wouldn't be surprised if many "freak out" the week of their wedding because they have been putting this task off until the last minute.
